App State Police Information
The Appalachian Police Department (APD) is located in the Rivers Street Parking Deck in Boone and on the first floor at App State Hickory, next to the information desk in the front lobby. Report a crime or suspicious activity in Boone or Hickory (non-emergency) at 828-262-8000 or to APD in person.
Report a Crime
You can anonymously report a crime or any suspicious activity in Boone through the Appalachian Safety App. Select the option to submit a tip. To report a crime or any suspicious activity anonymously in the Hickory area, call the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office at 828-466-2847 or visit the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Give a Tip page.

Sexual Assault Prevention and Resources
If you have been sexually assaulted recently or some time ago, you may be experiencing a wide range of feelings, including shock, fear, disbelief, recurring memories, outrage, confusion, sadness, despair and anger. Please do not lose hope. All of your feelings are valid. If you or someone you know has experienced sexual assault, help is available.
Suicide Prevention Resources
If you or someone you know is thinking about suicide, help is available. It doesn’t always feel like it, but your life matters. In moments when you feel like you just need some support, there is help out there. Join the movement to spread the word that your problems, your worries, your fears, and above all you, the unique and real you, matter.
Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Resources
If you or someone you know is struggling with alcohol or other drug misuse, consider reaching out to access crisis resources and/or ongoing support, available on and off campus. Counseling resources offer a confidential, supportive place to discuss what is happening in your life with a professional.

Emergency Blue Light Phone Locations in Boone
For your safety, there are over 70 emergency blue light telephones located across the campus. These phones only require one button to be pushed and the call will ring directly into the Appalachian Police Telecommunications Center. The blue light phone system automatically identifies the caller’s location so the telecommunicator can quickly dispatch an officer to assist the caller. These phones are located at residence hall entrances, in parking lots, in tunnels and at other strategic locations.
AED Locations in Boone and Hickory
Located in Boone and Hickory, AEDs can be found in various locations, with some buildings having more than one AED available. Take a moment to review where the AED is located in the buildings where you work and learn. If you need to use an AED, remember to immediately call 911. AEDs are also available in Boone via responding emergency personnel on campus, such as App State Police and Mountaineer Medics.
Mountaineer Safe Walk
Safe Walk is a free safety escort service available to students in any main campus building or parking lot in Boone. A secure ride to and from satellite campus locations in Boone during fall and spring semesters is also available. Call 828-262-7433 in Boone. Students in Hickory who would like to request a safety escort to their vehicles in the evenings can call 828-262-8000.
AppState-ALERT
AppState-ALERT is Appalachian State University’s 24/7 emergency messaging system which uses a combination of text messaging, voice messaging, a siren warning system, email and web technologies. Students, employees and their families can register for alerts.
Appalachian Safety App (RAVE Guardian)
Appalachian Safety App (RAVE Guardian) can turn your phone into an additional personal safety device. Download the free RAVE Guardian safety app to check in with family and friends, contact the Appalachian Police Department (APD) and connect with other local emergency service providers to help you stay safe both on and off campus.
