Suicide Prevention and Response

Talking to a friend about suicide is scary. That’s a normal reaction. It’s OK if you don’t know what to do. The Prevent Suicide Website helps you learn what to do and how to access appropriate resources.
If you think a friend is considering suicide, you can get advice at the Counseling Center website at Appalachian State University or call 828-262-3180. You can also call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (988). They will walk you through what to do. You don’t have to face this alone.

Emergency notifications and timely warnings
In compliance with the Clery Act, App State will notify the campus community upon confirmation of a significant emergency or dangerous situation occurring on campus that involves a threat to the health or safety of students or employees. App State will also notify campus of crimes and incidents that may have already occurred on or near campus, but represent an ongoing threat to campus in Boone or Hickory.
