App State Operations:
Spring 2025 end-of-semester update
App State sends periodic operational updates that include information about key university operations, health and safety resources and other important campus information for students and employees.

Finish Strong and Prepare for Summer
- Good luck on your final exams: Final exams are Friday, May 2, through Thursday, May 8 — review the Spring 2025 exam schedule.
- Congratulations, Class of 2025: App State will celebrate its newest graduates at Spring 2025 Commencement on Friday, May 9, and Saturday, May 10. Visit the university’s Commencement website for details and to watch livestreams of the ceremonies.
Students, please take these actions before leaving campus for the summer
- Residence halls will close between the end of the spring semester and the start of Summer Sessions. Students living in residence halls have received move-out instructions from University Housing.
- Non-graduating students move out by noon on Friday, May 9, and graduating students move out by noon on Sunday, May 11.
- Contact University Housing at [email protected] with questions.
- Return rented physical textbooks by Tuesday, May 13 — drop off books at the Campus Store (Boone), Campus Services Express Desk (Hickory) or ship them using a trackable method.
- Return or renew your library books and materials. Please note that some items must be returned/renewed in person.
- Retrieve all mail/packages from the University Post Office and forward your on-campus mail, if applicable — complete the Mail Forwarding Form (login required).
- Use Dining Dollars by the end of the academic year, as unused funds will not carry over — review your current balance using the Transact e-Accounts app.
Orientation and Summer Sessions
- New student orientation: Orientation sessions for new first-year and transfer students admitted to App State for summer and fall 2025 begin Friday, May 30, and continue through June.
- Summer Sessions: App State holds two, five-week Summer Sessions.
- Summer Session 1 is Tuesday, May 27, through Friday, June 27. Summer Session 2 is Wednesday, July 2, through Tuesday, Aug. 5.
- Students enrolled in Summer Sessions can find information about textbooks and course materials by visiting the Campus Store’s Student Textbook Resources page.
Campus Updates
- Review Academic Calendars for key, upcoming academic dates:
- Visit the Campus Services Express Desk, with Boone and Hickory campus locations, for questions related to AppCards, Campus Dining, Campus Services, student employment, Parking and the Campus Store.
- Campus Dining’s spring closing schedule begins Thursday, May 1, and hours vary by location.
- All venues will be closed Saturday, May 10, through Monday, May 26. Campus Dining will offer RSVP meal options for pick up Saturday, May 24, through Monday, May 26, at Park Place in Trivette Hall.
- Summer hours begin Tuesday, May 27, and vary by location.
- IT Support Services assists students and employees with App State and personal devices:
- Call the ITS Help Desk at 828-262-6266, weekdays, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
- Submit a support ticket (login required) and indicate your location (Boone or Hickory) for routing.
- Visit the Technology Support Center — summer hours begin Thursday, May 1:
- Boone campus: Anne Belk Hall, Room 140, weekdays, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
- Hickory campus: Room 1414, Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m.–6:30 p.m., and Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.
- University Events Scheduling and Communications manages on-campus event/meeting space requests for faculty, staff and students. Visit the website to review policies and access the scheduling system to request space (App State email required for login).
- Review University Libraries’ hours of operation for Boone and Hickory campus locations. Belk Library is open 24 hours through Wednesday, May 7, during the final exam period.
- University Recreation locations on the Boone and Hickory campuses are open regular hours through Friday, May 2, and will operate with adjusted hours Sunday, May 4, through Monday, May 26 — summer schedule begins Tuesday, May 27.
- Student Health Service is operating with regular hours through Friday, May 9.
- Boone campus: Limited services will be available Monday, May 12, through Friday, May 23. Summer schedules begin Tuesday, May 27, after the Memorial Day holiday.
- Hickory campus: Student Health Service will close Wednesday, May 7 — regular services will resume for the fall 2025 semester.
- Telehealth appointment options are available. Call 828-262-3100 to make an appointment.
- After hours: Any student with health-related questions and concerns may call 828-262-3100 and press "1" to be connected with an after-hours nurse.
- Wellness and Prevention Services serves all students through the promotion of healthy behaviors, risk behavior modification services and advocacy for campuswide health.
- In-person appointments in Boone and virtual appointments for all students are available weekdays, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., excluding observed holidays. Call 828-262-3148 for more information.
- Counseling services:
- For all students — Counseling and Psychological Services offers regular and after-hours emergency support for urgent mental health concerns — review the Emergency Services page for more information.
- Boone campus: Students can visit the Counseling Center and let the front desk know they are having an emergency, weekdays, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
- After hours: Call 828-262-3180 and select the option to speak with the counselor on call.
- For employees — Counseling for Faculty and Staff (CFS) provides counseling, consultation, training and referrals for employees and their immediate families. CFS is open weekdays, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Visit the website to make an appointment and/or for more information.
- Mountaineer Safe Walk will end on Wednesday, May 7, and does not operate in summer — operations will resume for the fall 2025 semester.
- Non-emergency, courtesy medical transports for students continue year-round, 7 days a week, 8 a.m.–3 a.m., excluding holidays and scheduled academic breaks.
Campus Safety Resources
App State Police Department
- In an emergency, call 911 for the fastest, most reliable means of getting emergency assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the year.
- The App State Police direct phone number is 828-262-8000. If you have not already done so, add App State Police to your mobile phone contacts.
Emergency Preparedness
- App State’s Environmental Health, Safety and Emergency Management team works in coordination with other departments across App State’s campuses to build a safe and prepared university.
- AppState-ALERT is the university’s 24/7 emergency messaging system that uses texts, voice messaging, the siren warning system, desktop alerts, email and web alerts to provide App State students and employees with timely information in the event of a campus emergency.
- Voice and text alerts are opt-in. Register for AppState-ALERT text and/or voice messaging.
- The RAVE Guardian mobile safety app is available to students and employees free of charge and includes access to the AppCares, App State Police and App State Emergency Preparedness websites. Learn more and download the RAVE Guardian mobile safety app.
