Three New Appointments in the Division of Student Development

After extensive nationwide searches, Cindy Wallace, Vice Chancellor for Student Development, is pleased to announce three appointments within the Division. Two are current members of the Appalachian community who will be assuming new roles and the third will be joining the University for the first time. Each brings an extensive level of knowledge and experience to their respective roles and has demonstrated a strong commitment to student learning. All three will contribute to the efforts of a talented team of Student Development professionals dedicated to serving our students. Please help us welcome these folks into their respective roles in our community.

Mr. David Elrod has been appointed to the position of Director of Student Conduct. David is currently serving as interim Associate Director for Student Conduct. He began in the Office of Student Conduct in 2010 as Coordinator for Student Conduct. He has subsequently served as Assistant Director and now as Associate Director. He has also served as Assistant Director for Financial Aid at Appalachian, Graduate Faculty Affiliate at Appalachian, Adjunct Instructor at Caldwell Community College, and Assistant Director for Judicial Affairs at Gardner Webb University. David is completing his doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Appalachian and also has his master's in Educational Administration from Appalachian along with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Gardner Webb University.

Ms. Ellen Hartman has accepted the position of Interpersonal Violence Support and Prevention Coordinator in the Dean of Students Office and the Office of Wellness and Prevention. Ellen will be transitioning from her current role as Assistant Director in the Office of Student Conduct here at Appalachian, and is excited to continue to pursue her passion of support, education, and advocacy for those that have been impacted by interpersonal violence. Ellen’s previous experience includes serving as Director of Housing and Residential Life at South University, Savannah, GA, and Dean of Student Affairs at South University, Virginia Beach, VA. Ellen brings a unique skill set to this role with her experience in both support and prevention on ASU’s campus, as well as in the Boone community. Ellen received her master’s degree in College Student Development at ASU, and is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Educational Leadership at ASU.

Mr. Brandon Miller has been appointed to the position of Assistant Director for Fitness in University Recreation. Brandon has a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Georgia and a Bachelor Degree in Exercise Science from Florida State University. Prior to coming to Appalachian, Brandon served as a Graduate Assistant in Fitness and Wellness at the University of Georgia where he was responsible for a variety of fitness programs, training and supervision of staff, and assessment. At Florida State he served as the Student Director of Strength and Conditioning along with serving as a personal trainer. He has been actively involved in NIRSA and related state and regional fitness organizations.
